The online bingo craze has soared in the past couple of years, with more and more websites appearing by the month offering new deals and better ways to win money through one of the simplest games on the internet. Some news stories are reporting wins of up to £1m, which illustrates the growth of the industry. The premise of bingo is very basic: the numbers are called out in a random order and players have to cross them off as they are called to create a “pattern” on their card – the pattern being predefined at the start of the game. Here are some handy tips that you might want to consider before starting your online bingo career.

1. Avoid overcrowded games. Although a greater number of players means a larger pot, it also means less chance of winning! There’s also the possibility of more experienced players being in the game, which will also hinder your chances of success. The best games to target are those that are balanced, with enough players to generate a decent-sized pot but few enough players to give you a good chance of winning

2. Join an online community. This will open up a lot of possibilities to you, such as getting to know about where the best bingo deals are, and also receiving a few new tips along the way! Most online bingo websites have a community or forum section where players can log-on and discuss their bingo stories with other, swapping tips and chatting in general. It also provides a place for players to relax after a period of gaming so that they don’t get too swamped by the game. Bingo communities also give players the chance to hear about sites to stay away from, such as those that offer poor bonuses or simply don’t pay out at all.

3. Learn the “bingo lingo”. New players might initially be confused by some of the language that is used on bingo sites, especially whilst the game is taking place. It can take a while to get used to how people communicate using short-hand for certain expressions, so here are a few to start you off:

• “pls” – Please! People will type this if they need a particular number, usually their last number to achieve bingo. If someone needed number 17, they might type “17 pls”
• “gl” – Good luck!
• “wtg”/“gj” – Way to go/Good job! If someone gets bingo, then you might see a lot of the other players typing “wtg” or “gj” to congratulate them.
• “ty” – Thankyou! Usually said in response to the above congratulatory message.
• “gg” – Good game! A player might say this if they just miss out on a bingo in a close game, as a show of sportsmanship.
• “brb” – Be right back! People might leave the game to go to the toilet or have a drink and will type this to let others know that they will be gone for a short while.
• “lol” – Laughing out loud! No-one can see you laughing whilst online, so you might type this in response to a good joke. The simple alternative is “ha-ha”.

4. Don’t give up! You might not win on your first game, or even your first five, but you have to persevere if you are to get that big win to make it all worthwhile. Just think, if you give up when that big win was just around the corner, you’ll never forgive yourself. You should be having fun whilst playing so losing a few games before winning one should be a small price to pay. Just remember to go out there with the intention of having a good time and hopefully picking up a few winnings along the way!
