Open source technology has taken the web by surprise. While software used to be controlled by corporate powerhouses with strict regulations on code modifications, the Open Source movement has launched an unexpected counter attack.
SpivO started as a goal to build a search engine on open source technology (see SpivO’s History). While SpivO is new, upgraded, and built on faster, more reliable software and networks, the tradition of using open source technology is still alive and well.
We encourage our users to support the software that helps SpivO evolve. If not financially, then by volunteering your programming talents to these projects. Look for the “Technology Credit” at the bottom of each channel to see if its based on open source technology.

SpivO and Linux
SpivO is entirely based on Linux technology. Linux is trusted to support SpivO’s massive amounts of data because it works efficiently, quickly, and uses the least amount of server resources of any other server environment.
